Let’s get real here, traveling is so SO fun! Yet, at times it can be a nightmare. This is part of the package. It is what it is.

But there are ways to handle things and make the best of situations even when they aren’t the most ideal situation.

I want to share some nightmare stories I’ve had from traveling and how having Allianz Travel Insurance saved my life. Literally!

Travel Nightmares

Nightmare At Check-In

Have you ever missed your flight because of ‘bad- traffic’? ( I know what you’re thinking: “Jen, you’re Cuban, you’re always late.”) – That is sometimes true, and I mean it! Nonetheless, friends, traffic makes things complicated. Living in New York City and having to travel to either one of the three major international airports, JFK, LGW or NWK can be a real hassle.

Missing a flight because of traffic happens more often than you think. Some airlines (in major cities like New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, etc) actually have a forgiveness claws for being late because of traffic. Traffic can be very unpredictable in major cities! For those airlines that don’t, Travel Insurance comes to the rescue. They can reimburse you for the cost of a new flight and help you rebook your travel.

They Lost Your Luggage

Let me paint you the picture: You’ve been traveling for 14 hours. On a flight from New York City to Dubai. You KNEW you should have just packed a carry on for a week. You also knew that you didn’t want to carry your stuff around and YOU really wanted to bring those two extra pairs of heels. You know you can wear them to dinner! You land in Dubai and within hours of touching down, you realize you’ve got no luggage. It’s ‘lost’ the airline can’t find it.

Thank the lord for travel insurance (Allianz Travel Insurance) you reach out with a sad complaint about the airline losing your luggage and don’t know what to do. You’re crying to the operator! Ask if they can help! If you purchase a policy with SmartBenefits, you can be proactively paid for necessities like toiletries and a change of clothes without submitting any receipts (now, that’s customer service!) If you don’t have SmartBenefits, keep your receipts and submit a claim online (just remember to check your benefit limits, those $800 shoes may exceed your total)

You’re Sick!

It happens to all of us. ESPECIALLY when you’re traveling. Your health insurance does not cover you when you’re in Costa Rica or Morocco puking from water or bad foods! Trust me. I know.

This is when travel insurance, the superhero, steps in to save the day. If you travel as much as I do this is EXTREMELY important to have. Truly the #1 reason I signed up for Allianz Travel Insurance.  The fact, that if God forbid, I get sick I am covered and taken care of.

17,000+ Ft Above Sea Level And You’re Still Covered

Did you know that if you do a high altitude trek you should have insurance to cover you for getting sick during this trek? You can be in the best shape of your life. You should have trained for 1000 days before your trek. Altitude sickness nothing to be playing with. It’s really dangerous. Allianz Travel Insurance can assist you in finding medical care and getting you well.

If you didn’t have travel insurance it could easily cost you $5,000 to take an emergency helicopter ride from the mountain to the nearest hospital. And that’s just including the cost of the ride, not the medical help!

For those of you who travel once a year, and this isn’t as relevant to you as you think, I recommend purchasing Travel Insurance when you purchase flights (at check out) to destinations that aren’t commonly traveled to or if you’re traveling during an ‘off-season’. It’s better to lose, $30,00 than $1000 on a flight to Australia because you’re showed up late to check-in because of ‘bad traffic’. 😉
